Best Movie This is REALLY tough for me because I actually like them all. Let’s do a breakdown starting with
Night of the Living Dead–yeah it’s old, campy, cheesy and some bad acting but this movie was a little bit scary when I saw. I was younger then but,it changed the way horror films where made back then. There have been tons of wannabe zombie movies since then, even remakes that this film set the tone for. You can’t beat the 80’s zombies, I mean take a good look at Thriller by MJ. He set the tone for music videos which in turn made music videos something to be watched and not just listening to the songs, his zombies were fantastic!

Raising Arizona–yes Nicholas Cage can be funny,at least he was in this movie. He might look a little weird sometimes and I am still trying to get over the fact that he named his son “Kal-El”, Superman’s Kryptonian name(yes I am a Superman fan). Classic comedy two near-do-wells trying to make do with what they have Holly Hunter and Nicholas Cage did a fantastic job. With quotes like,”Biology and prejudices of others conspired to keep us childless” and “You mean you busted out of jail? No ma’am,we released ourselves on our own recognizance. What Evelle is trying to say is that the institution had nothing to offer us anymore”, how could you NOT like this movie?!? Yes. I have seen it quite a few times.

Ghostbusters–The one and only ghost themed movie that isn’t really a scary, gruesome flick. It has mostly comedic elements, classic 80’s stars and a hit song, what more do you want?

Some Like It Hot–One of only two Marilyn Monroe movies I’ve seen the other being “The Seven Year Itch”. I have always heard that she wasn’t a very good actress and it was her looks that got her by and that may very well be true but I thought she was good enough in this movie and it was good for what it was. I don’t think she was wanting an Oscar nomination well,I don’t know that but the movie was interesting and it kept my attention and it did well. It might’ve been then “I wanna be loved by you” song she sang in it…

Men In Black–who would’ve thought that, two men trying to keep the world and New York safe from aliens would be so entertaining. Will Smith has very few flops and this wasn’t one of them. The had some memorable performances from some notable actors Tony Shalhoub, the pawn shop owner, Vincent D’Onoforio as Ed who eats the farmer and Rip Torn as Chief Zed. This movie was funny and had great action scenes. Of course, Will gave us a hit song with a catchy line. Do we expect anything less from him?

Best Television Show (scripted)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer– this started my love and obsession with supernatural shows. From this, I have grown to like Charmed, Angel and Joss Whedon, the creator. Buffy inspired a generation of ass-kicking chicks that can go to school, have a life and save the world at the same time. Who said we couldn’t multi-task? Not too sure on the supernatural relationship tho, seems like way to much heartache, you know people from past relationships from the 1800’s,traumatizing to say the least. But Buffy is and will always be a great scripted show in my eyes. The storylines were great. The cast looked great but ,most of all the action was never disappointing!

Best Unscripted Television Show

Toss your remote: Is cable and satellite TV becoming obsolete?

In today’s time of recession and economic whoas, things like cable and satellite are becoming something of a luxury that is NOT, needed anymore. I personally have been watching TV on the internet since my freshman year in college. Granted, it just started back then(which wasn’t very long ago) but it has completely advanced since then. I started with what is called an ed2k client and links. The links are used to denote files stored on a P2P network. The main client used is eMule. The typical ed2k link includes the filename and file size and looks like this
ed2k://|file|Christmas.with.the.Kranks.(2004).DVDRip.XviD-HLS.avi|730662912|CFF040F95CBB6113E789B4DE8FC124BF|/

Typically, you go to a p2p site, search for a tv show, movie or software you would like to download, click on it and it will open up in the eMule client and start downloading. Now, in my experience, this takes a much longer time to download. Through my efforts, trial and error I came upon torrents. Torrents,in my opinion, are smaller files that can be downloaded to a torrent client, in a shorter time frame. Check this out about Torrents. There are MANY torrent sites and torrent clients. I chose uTorrent because it’s not a space hog. You can go through the list and find which ones you like and choose to your liking.

Since torrents, hundreds of sites have popped up that stream videos. I can go on for days about the number of sites that you can watch and catch up on your favorite TV show and/or classic TV shows and movies. You can check out my previous blogs 4 Quick watch to watch TV and movies online for free and Free ways to watch TV and movies online part 2. With these sites, you don’t really need cable or satellite because whatever airs, will ultimately be placed on torrent, ed2k or streaming sites the very next day! They are beneficial because most of them are ad free. I say MOST because the network sites, ABC, CBS,FOX etc. show ads on their players(just one commercial and in some cases, the same commercial over and over again). Keep in mind. TV is not completely dead even though studios and networks are airing their contents through things like Netflix and their own sites. The question is, Can you go without Cable TV even though what you watch on your TV set is readily available online?

Overstock.com commerical

Ok. I’ve been seeing this commercial a lot lately and I think it’s a cute one. Apparently, they’re a real traveling singing couple and what not! I didn’t think that they were. Like usual, I thought they were two actors hired for their ads?! If you haven’t seen it, here’s a clip

So,I did some more research and found this video! It’s a clip of an audition tape they sent into a show called,”Can You Duet”? Never heard of it! Anyways, the clip is called, “Love Story” and here it is

They are too cute! Seriously? How have they NOT gotten any bigger than this? Cute couple with good voices! Gives ya hope that there’s REAL love out there huh?

The best shows you are not watching part 2

There are so many channels on our cable and satellite that we sometimes overlook shows that are very good. As a result of this, most of these shows often loose ratings and are canceled or it can take a great turn and become phenomenons!

True Blood
3a6c1f2trueblood

Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called True Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have make their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar ‘Merlotte’s’ which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

Fantastic show! That’s all I have to say!

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
sunny16bt

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a sitcom on FX, starring (and created by) Rob McElhenny, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day. It’s about four friends (the fourth friend played by Kaitlin Olson) who run an Irish bar in Philadelphia. The series deals with serious topics such as abortion rights, gun control, racism, and gay rights, but in humorous ways. The show debuted in August 2005.

According to Rob McElhenny, who was recently on a Philadelphia radio program, word of mouth on the show has been good and FX has renewed it for a second season, set to premiere June 29, 2006. Danny DeVito will join the cast for season 2.

The first season’s final episode aired on September 13, 2005. Reruns of edited versions of first season episodes began airing on FX’s parent network FOX in 2006.

Pushing Diaisies
15716

This romantic drama shows us the strange world of a man, Ned, who can bring dead people back to life through the power of his touch. The people he touches, however, can only stay alive for one minute, and if they don’t die again, someone else nearby will die. Ned decides to use his ability to solve crime. He and a local investigator, Emerson, bring murder victims back to life and find out who killed them, to cash in on case-solving rewards. But, when Ned brings an old crush back to life, and decides to let her live, things start to get complicated…

The best shows you are not watching or not watching enough of

Hey all! Happy Belated New Year! My computer got a virus so I have been indisposed for a while and have been unable to write any blogs…until now. While on my hiatus, I caught up on some television viewing and rekindled my love affair for the shows I lost time to watch and found new loves of those I haven’t seen before. Here’s a list. First up,

Damages

homepagemain

DAMAGES is a legal thriller set in the world of New York City high-stakes litigation. The series follows the turbulent lives of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) the nation’s most revered and reviled high-stakes litigator and her bright, ambitious protégé Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) as they become embroiled in a class action lawsuit targeting the allegedly corrupt Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson), one of the country’s wealthiest CEOs. As Patty battles with Frobisher and his attorney Ray Fiske (Željko Ivanek) Ellen Parsons will be front and center witnessing just what it takes to win at all costs, as it quickly becomes clear that lives, as well as fortunes, may be at stake.

This show is gritty, cutthroat and dirty. I love it! It basically takes women, throws them in the shark tank of crime, money laundering and good ole’embezzlement and, shows that women can be just as devious(maybe even more) and dangerous as men are. It shows us the high stakes and dangerous world of the high-powered lawyers. The show just started it’s second season so, there is only the first season to catch up on. It airs Wednesdays at 10e/9c. If you miss it, remember you can always check out sites like Hulu or FX. The home site has the complete first season that you can watch for free!

Dexter
212c58f0000050907

Dexter is a television drama series based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay and adapted for television by Emmy Award-winning screenwriter James Manos, Jr., who wrote the pilot episode. Set in Miami, the series centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a serial killer governed by an ambiguous moral code who works for the Miami Metro Police Department as a blood spatter analyst.

One of my absolute favorite shows on TV right now. I summarize “Dexter” as a blood splatter analysis by day and serial killer by night. Well,he is a serial killer to some extent. He justifies his killings as “wrongs made right”. He preys on the pedophiles, rapists and anyone that has done something wrong to someone or something innocent. I personally, don’t know many people that have heard of this show or even seen a preview. It mostly comes from the show being on Showtime and not many people subscribe to this channel. Fear not! There are many sites you can catch up on these thrilling shows. Enjoy!!

The Secret Life of An American Teenager
245500000049415

Amy and Ben are just your normal high school couple, except she’s having a baby (and it’s not his). Super-Christian Grace thought she and Jack were for keeps, but then he cheated on her with wild-child Adrian Lee. This threw Grace into the arms of bad-boy Ricky (the father of Amy’s baby). As secrets and scandals begin to surface at Grant High, with they bring the students and their families together – or tear them apart?

I stumbled on this show one night channel surfing. Watched the two episodes that aired and, I’ve been hooked ever since. This is also in its second season so I’ve been busy catching up on season one, you won’t be disappointed. ABC Family has clips of season one and some of this season is up on it’s main site.

Mad Men
7eb7700000403292

Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell. The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

Okay. For a big laugh and some interesting night-time TV viewing check out My Big Redneck Wedding. It airs on CMT and the website has previous full videos of the show.
